Basingstoke Bison Announce Assistant Coaching Team

The Basingstoke Bison are proud to confirm the appointment of Tony Redmond and Dan Weller Evans as Assistant Coaches for the upcoming season, working alongside Head Coach Jeff Flanagan.

A Familiar Face Returns – Tony Redmond

Scottish-born Tony Redmond is no stranger to Basingstoke fans. A former defenceman with a long history in British hockey, Redmond has been behind the bench for the Herd on multiple occasions, previously serving as assistant coach from 2018 through 2023.

After spending last season with the Bristol Pitbulls, Redmond now returns to Basingstoke, bringing a wealth of experience and continuity to the coaching team. With a coaching career that began during his playing days with Slough Jets and continued through many years of service with the Bison, his knowledge of the league and his ability to mentor players will be invaluable as the club looks to build towards a strong season.

Goaltending Expertise – Dan Weller-Evans

Joining Redmond on the coaching staff is former Bison netminder Dan Weller-Evans, who takes on the role of Goaltending Coach. A product of the Bison junior system, the Welsh-born goaltender went on to spend the bulk of his senior career in Basingstoke colours.

Weller-Evans spend the 24/25 season gaining valuable coaching experience working with the Berkshire Bees as their Goaltending Coach. His return to Basingstoke, this time behind the bench, will ensure the club’s goaltenders receive specialist training and development from someone who knows exactly what it means to represent the Herd.

Head Coach Jeff Flanagan welcomed the appointments, saying “Both Tony and Dan bring a focused coaching acumen to the Bison staff. Tony’s experience as a player and a coach will be a massive asset, while Dan’s experience and ability to work closely with our goaltenders ensure every area of the roster is supported. I’m excited to have them both on board as we prepare for the season ahead.”

The Bison now have a strong and experienced coaching team in place, ready to guide the squad through the challenges of the new campaign. Please join us in welcoming Tony & Dan to the Bison’s off ice team!
