Basingstoke Bison Re-Sign George Norcliffe for 2026/27 Season.
Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce that forward George Norcliffe has put pen to paper for the 2026/27 season, bringing one of the most recognisable names in Basingstoke hockey back to Planet Ice.
The 32-year-old Guildford-born forward is no stranger to the town, and his return will be music to the ears of the Bison fanbase as he’s become a true fan favourite over his multiple stints with the club, and his presence in the lineup next season will be a significant boost as the roster continues to come together.
Norcliffe brings a wealth of experience to the team, and has become a consistent performer at PINIHL level. His time in Basingstoke has produced some of his best hockey, most notably a standout 2022/23 campaign with the club where he posted an impressive 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 55 games. This past season, playing for Basingstoke Bison in the NIHL, he registered 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 38 games, further cementing his value as a productive and experienced forward.
A powerful skater, Norcliffe's game is built on pace and the ability to create danger in transition. His outside speed makes him a constant threat off the rush, and opponents have learned the hard way that giving him room to skate is a costly mistake.
Head Coach Jeff Flanagan was full of praise for the returning forward:
"We are excited to have George back with the Bison for next season. His skating ability and outside speed make him a dangerous player off the rush. George has a lot of history here in Basingstoke and bleeds green. His leadership on and off the ice will be key to success next season."
Beyond the on-ice contributions, it is Norcliffe's character and leadership that make his re-signing so significant. A player who commands respect in any dressing room, he sets the tone through his professionalism and his genuine connection with the club and its supporters.
On his return, George said, “I’m really happy to be returning to Basingstoke for another season! Whilst the past year had its fair share of challenges and didn’t go as we had hoped, it was incredibly special to be part of bringing hockey back to Basingstoke. To return as captain was and remains an incredible honour. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead. We’ll be entering the campaign with much higher expectations, and I can’t wait to get started and push for some silverware.”
Welcome back, George. We can't wait to see you back on the ice.
