Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defenceman Zach Shankar for the 2025/26 season. The 28-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Herd with a resume that spans the across the OHL, USports, the ECHL, and most recently in France3, where he tallied 22 points in 18 regular season games. Before heading overseas, Zach played five seasons in Canadian university hockey following a solid OHL career and standing at 6’1” Shankar brings strength and stability to the blue line.


Head Coach Jeff Flanagan said "Zach joins us after a year in France, where he made a strong offensive front from the back end. Previous to his time in France, he spent his university career with Toronto Metropolitan University in USport. Zach brings a wealth of experience at the junior and university levels, and we are pleased to have him on board for the upcoming season."


On joining the Bison, Zach said “I’m very excited to join the Bison. Looking forward to getting started and meeting everyone! See you soon!”
